Noisy, experimental, and very rhythmically inclined trio Battles will be releasing a new album called La Di Da Di on 18th September – the followup to 2011’s Gloss Drop, which was their first outing without former frontman Tyondai Braxton. Battles latest album Why Make Sense?
Now, they’ve just dropped a video for the first single taken from the upcoming album, ‘The Yabba’, directed by Roger Guàrdia. Just as cryptically as their as their music flows frenziedly in rhythmic loops, so too does the imagery of this video move in cryptic circles – sometimes almost literally, as the band – whilst rocking out to the highest degree – are encircled by a strange mass of people dressed in black, who orbit around them, walking slowly. The video also starts with a shot of a girl spinning a basketball, smiling eerily at the camera.
This is accompanied by dynamic camera shots, which are almost never static, panning, zooming, and at one point focused directly above the cultlike group of people walking around the band, spinning and producing a hypnotising effect.
