The eagerly awaited, much hyped video for the title track of Joanna Newsom’s new album Divers finally arrived this week, after being subject to a select number of theatre showings early this month.
Why the theatrical screenings? Why the hype? That’s because it’s directed by Paul Thomas Anderson – acclaimed director of Boogie Nights, Magnolia and, most recently, Inherent Vice: his film adaptation of the eponymous Thomas Pynchon novel, narrated by Newsom herself.
The video, a beautifully spun 7minute splash of beauty, also features the visuals of Kim Keever, responsible for the artwork featured on and throughout Divers itself, making it a neat denouement of the release’s epically ethereal visual themes.
